What do you think? Is Christmas sustainable? How would it all work in a changwd world?
Christmas is a day set aside for the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.Christmas cards and presents are exchanged between friends and families during the weeks preceding to christmas day.it is also a day celebrated by many people.Homes and shops are decorated with all kinds of decorations, coloured lights decorate town centres, shops and many shiny decorations. In homes christmas trees, real or plastics will also be decorated with lights and ornaments.Work places hold christmas parties. It has been made a day where by people spend money on presents.
Christmas is somehow not sustainable.Families meet on christmas and have special christmas dinner as it is an important part of the celebration.Too much food is cooked on this day and a lot end up in bins which is not good for the environment. It would help if people freeze left overs or use it in salads, stews,or compost it.People should also try to buy food with less packaging and wrap gifts in recyclable wrapping paper to avoid too much waste.A lot of disposable papers are used during the festive season instead of using dinner plates which can later be washed and used again.
To live in a more sustainable way during the festive season people should turn off the christmas lights and night because they use a lot of energy. It is also important to buy locally made gifts to avoid transportation which causes a lot of greenhouse emmissions and global warming. It would work if people re-use christmas decorations and recycle christmas cards, cans, bottles, cardboard and old mobile phones.
